Beirniadaeth y Gerddi 2017

Results of the Garden Competition Ruthin Flower Show 2017

Including brief comments from the Judge

Allotments

1 Mr David Lloyd. It all looks too good to eat, and not a weed to be seen. A huge plot to keep in such good order and so many types of vegetables.

2 Mr Joseph Hughes. A very close second. It might be very difficult to judge the allotments next year!

Country Gardens

1 Carol and John Perkins, Wylan, Llanbedr: A beautiful garden in a lovely rural setting with a great variety of plants all grown to perfection. The joy of designing, creating and caring for a garden over many years shines out from this garden.

2 Sue and Les Starling, Tyddyn Bach, Bontuchel: Another lovely garden in a rural setting, packed with interesting plants and wildlife. If I were a plant this is the home I would choose where the flowers, frogs and birds call the tune.

3 Michelle and Rob Strang, Drovers Arms, Rhewl: A delightful warm and welcoming garden with touches of fun and an artist’s eye. A great variety of healthy plants packed into small spaces.

Town Gardens

1 Trem y Foel (entered by Jock Davies). I could have stayed here all day looking at the flowers, and hearing the stories. I have never seen so many containers and such a wealth of colour everywhere. What a lovely place to retire to.

2 Mrs Ursula Harrington. A gifted horticulturist tends the garden here, massed with colourful plants. A huge number of flowers fruit and veg, and next year’s propagating underway; and pets and wildlife and ingenious low-cost ideas to keep the garden and the wildlife healthy. Not an inch of wasted space. Wonderful.

3 Mr and Mrs Paul Edgar. A small, steeply tiered garden created to seem bigger than it is through thoughtful design and construction. A good variety of plants all in perfect health and a lovely feeling of peace and harmony.

Highly Commended: Mrs Dilys Jones for having created a delightful quirky maze of a garden, including her lovely Suffolk plum, transforming a forlorn patch of brambles in just a few years.

Highly Commended: Liz Culshaw, together with gardener Scott for a perfectly managed garden, despite the best efforts of Bulldog George; and the most beautiful pink Dahlias I have ever seen.
